Galerie 38 Takes Part in the National Exhibition

“60 Years of Painting in Morocco”

A Major Celebration of Moroccan Pictorial Creation

To inaugurate the 2026 cultural season, Galerie 38, a leading art gallery in Morocco, is honored to take part in the exceptional national exhibition “60 Years of Painting in Morocco”, a landmark event celebrating six decades of Moroccan artistic creation.

Held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this major group exhibition takes place in Rabat from 6 to 29 January 2026 and stands as one of the year’s most significant cultural highlights. Through this unprecedented panorama, Morocco pays tribute to the richness, diversity, and evolution of its pictorial scene, affirming the central role of art and painting in its contemporary cultural history.

An Off-Site Exhibition Across Four Iconic Moroccan Venues

Conceived as a true artistic journey through the capital, the exhibition “60 Years of Painting in Morocco” unfolds simultaneously across four emblematic cultural venues, each bearing its own history and unique perspective on Moroccan art:

  • Galerie Nationale Bab Rouah, a major venue for modern and contemporary art

  • Villa des Arts, a space dedicated to dialogue and artistic transmission

  • Bank Al-Maghrib Museum, a key heritage institution

  • Galerie Bab El Kébir (Oudayas), a historic setting at the heart of the medina

This exceptional configuration offers the public a plural and dynamic reading of painting in Morocco, while encouraging the circulation of artworks, ideas, and perspectives.

Galerie 38: An Art Gallery Deeply Engaged in the Moroccan Art Scene

Since its founding, Galerie 38 has established itself as a gallery of reference in Morocco, deeply committed to promoting contemporary creation while remaining firmly rooted in a historical and cultural continuity.

Participating in a national exhibition such as “60 Years of Painting in Morocco” naturally aligns with the gallery’s mission:

  • to support artists over the long term,

  • to champion the plurality of pictorial expressions,

  • and to actively contribute to the recognition of Moroccan art on both national and international stages.

This off-site participation also reflects Galerie 38’s desire to engage in major institutional events that shape the collective artistic memory of the country.

Galerie 38 Artists Featured in the Exhibition

On the occasion of this historic celebration, Galerie 38 is proud to present the works of ten leading artists from its program, whose practices reflect the diversity of pictorial languages in Morocco:

Ghizlane Agzenaï, Ines-Noor Chaqroun, Meriam Benkirane, Mohamed Hamidi, Mohamed Lekleti, Mustapha Hafid, Yacout Hamdouch, Younes Khourassani, Youssef Douieb, and Fathiya Tahiri.

Through their works, these artists embody multiple generations, sensibilities, and aesthetics, offering a fertile dialogue between heritage, experimentation, and contemporaneity. Their presence within this national exhibition highlights the vitality of Moroccan painting and the ability of its artists to continually renew forms and imaginaries.

A Living Panorama of Moroccan Painting

“60 Years of Painting in Morocco” offers far more than a retrospective: it is a living panorama where individual trajectories intersect with collective movements, established practices with emerging approaches.

The exhibition sheds light on:

  • the evolution of Moroccan pictorial movements,

  • the richness of techniques and media,

  • the enduring dialogue between tradition and modernity,

  • and the integration of Moroccan painting within a global artistic context.

In this sense, the event underscores the essential role of art galleries in Morocco in supporting artists and structuring the national art scene.

An Unmissable Cultural Landmark in Morocco

By participating in “60 Years of Painting in Morocco”, Galerie 38 reaffirms its commitment to art, creation, and transmission, while contributing to a foundational moment in the history of Moroccan painting.
