Guido Baldessari

Guido Baldessari (Venice, 1939-2016) attended the Institute of Art of Venice in the 1950s and obtained his diploma in 1959. In 1965, he joined the group “Dialettica delle Tendenze” (Dialectic of Tendencies). In 1981, he won first prize in the “Geometric Figurations” category at the “Rassegna ai Arti Visive ‘Città di Mestre'” (Visual Arts Review ‘City of Mestre’).

In 1982, he co-founded the group “Materia Prima” (Primary Matter), with which he participated in the 51st International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale in 2005. In 2009, he took part in the collateral event “Krossing-Immaginodromo” during the 53rd Venice Biennale.

His works are featured in numerous prestigious collections, notably at the Museo d’Arte Moderna Ca’ Pesaro in Venice, the Historical Archives of Contemporary Arts of the Venice Biennale, the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa in Venice, as well as the Pinacoteca of Macerata, the Galleria d’Arte Moderna d’Ascoli Piceno, and the Museo d’Arte Moderna of Senigallia.

Baldessari began painting in 1954 but quickly moved away from realism to explore the modulation of light and the dynamic perception of forms. His work is part of the current of kinetic art, although his artistic language remains unique, marked by the use of vibrant colors, glass, and nervous plexiglass. His geometric compositions intertwine, multiply, and transform under the viewer’s gaze, generating a vibrant movement and dizzying, swirling visual effects.
