La Galerie 38 Casablanca is pleased to invite you to discover the new exhibition by artist Meriam Benkirane, Interlude, on display until Saturday, October 26. This exhibition marks a turning point in the artist’s career, a poetic interval seen as a significant transition—an interlude. Indeed, Meriam Benkirane breaks new ground by moving from acrylic to oil painting, while continuing to explore the construction and arrangement of geometrized signs and motifs.
The exhibition stands out for its reflection on speed and movement, with each drawing incorporating a kinetic dimension that echoes the exponential entropy of the modern world. It also offers a dive into the concept of “virtual realism,” where Meriam Benkirane’s works reorganize elements of a digital urban world while employing the noble Renaissance technique of sfumato to create soft contours and a play of contrast between shadow and light. The inclusion of a monumental monochromatic composition adds a new gravity, reflecting the anxieties of an increasingly apocalyptic world.
Interlude also questions humanity’s place in a dematerialized, digitalized world, reaffirming the importance of the manual gesture through the recurring motif of the hand. Meriam Benkirane invites us to a slow, meditative contemplation of painting, in contrast to the fast-paced virtual world of today.
