La Galerie 38 presents, for the first time in Morocco, a solo exhibition of unpublished works by Abdoulaye Konaté, a Malian visual artist and a major figure on the contemporary art scene.
Trained as a painter, his work evolved in the 1990s to focus on textiles, which he rediscovered and appropriated to create his works. Bazin, a traditional Malian fabric, is tinted with pigments whose nuances he plays with to orchestrate a veritable symphony of colors. He composes with strips of bazin, which placed end to end and superimposed, will give masterful works between painting, sculpture and installation.
As part of the exhibition “L’Etoffe des songes”, a dialogue with traditional Moroccan textiles and craftsmen from Fez have resulted in unique pieces. The meeting between Abdoulaye Konaté and the last Master of traditional brocade of Fez, El Haj Abdelkader Ouazzani, will mark this artistic exchange between two countries that share a rich heritage.
