Viro major Youssef Douieb – La Galerie 38 Marrakech
01.11.24 - 14.12.24

“Concrete painting, not abstract, because nothing is more concrete, more real than a line, a color, a surface.” – Theo van Doesburg

From November 1st to December 14th, Galerie 38 Marrakech presents “Viro Major,” an immersive exhibition exploring the refined universe of artist Youssef Douieb. Each work delves into the foundations of geometric abstraction and visual harmony. In this new series, Douieb emphasizes the radical autonomy of his artworks, detached from any external reference, giving way to forms and colors that are self-sufficient.

In a world troubled by disorder and confusion, Douieb responds with compositions that seek serenity and spiritual elevation. His recurring elliptical forms become the structuring elements of his visual language, affirming a universal harmony and guiding us towards a contemplation free from representations of the material world.

Dark color fields and vibrant hues engage in a dynamic dialogue, creating simultaneous contrasts while exploring the subtle interplay between organic and geometric forms. Each work is a demonstration of mathematical rigor and instinctive balance, where clean lines and ellipses obey a precise formal logic. Douieb rejects randomness in favor of an aesthetic of control, where form dictates its own space, excluding any figurative interpretation.

The minimalist works of “Viro Major” also invite reflection on the relationship between geometry and texture. Here, Douieb shapes compositions where the surface, whether smooth or textured, becomes the subject itself. Sometimes rigid, sometimes undulating, these forms advocate a simplified aesthetic where color is used as a vector of emotion, without superfluous symbolism.

At the heart of this exhibition, Douieb acts like a tightrope walker, oscillating between fluidity and structure, between the concrete and the subtle, between the universal and the intimate. “Viro Major” is an invitation to transcend appearance to reach the very essence of concrete art, where form and color are the true realities.
